On March 8th, 1965, the US 9th Marine Brigade landed on Nam O Beach (nicknamed Red Beach II) in Da Nang, which officially marked the American involvement in Vietnam. Thenceforth, the names "I Corps Area", "Ashau Valley", "Hamburger Hill", or "My Lai massacre" have never faded in the memory of American soldiers.
Coming back there nowadays, you can spend quiet moments on Non Nuoc Beach, once a popular R&R site of American servicemen, or simply enjoy the serenity of the ancient town of Hoi An , leaving behind all rueful remembrances of a distant past.
